Imparting knowledge is only lighting other people’s candles at our lamp without depriving ourselves of any flame.

Change is the only constant in life.
— Heraclitus

Our road map to navigating change is dependent on our beliefs and values. Sometimes we are presented with things that challenge our beliefs or values and we are offered an opportunity to initiate change, to evolve. With each change comes a choice - to work with the change and transition into new potential or try to remain the same within the inevitable change. The things that seem to have the greatest impact on holding us back from initiating or participating in change, and in our lives, are outdated beliefs and values. When these hold us back they disempower our decision making. One of the goals of my coaching practice is to help guide you to self empowerment. One way we do this is by examining and clarifying your beliefs and values while engaging your self-responsibility.

While the ultimate objective of my coaching practice is to help guide you to your best outcome. The processes of learning, healing, and moving toward our best outcomes are rarely paths of ‘sunshine, lollipops and rainbows’. Many of us are still invested in our perceived brokenness in some way; the parts of our story that we never saw as healed. These can be things we think less of about ourselves, that we've chosen to define us, label us, and mark what is unique about us. None of us are broken, or doomed. More often than not we've got what I refer to as wonky motivation, motivation based on our wounds which keeps us stuck in loops of thoughts or behaviors. Have you ever asked yourself, “How did I get here, again?!” That’d be the loop. Loops generally occur when something happens that forces us to adapt and we default to behaviors that served to protect us in our past. Yet, every situation is unique, and our past need not determine our future. As with many life lessons, there may be things that come up that are difficult. The insights and truths that may arise in coaching sessions can help us live a more empowered life and understand more of our subconscious patterns with an opportunity to transform our reactions into more intentional responses to whatever life brings.

With guidance, an understanding of our values and beliefs, some self forgiveness and plenty of patience for everyone's imperfections, we can realign to move forward, spiral out of our loops; we can evolve into our purpose.

Most of us spend a lot of time in our minds, with our Soul and our emotions.
The soul is the place of free will (our responses to thoughts that enter the mind. These responses determine what we go on to experience).
Our emotions are our gateway to the heart (the heart determines what thoughts get through). Living here can mean living in the mind at the cost of all else.

While Coherence Coaching works with the mind and emotions, the focus is on getting to the Spirit. This is the place of our identity, character and values. Our Intrinsic value. All of life is a spiritual experience and a healthy connection to our spirit brings insight to our every moment. Learning the core facts of who we are helps to build a solid foundation for our spirit, which leads to ease in self management. All of this self-work allows us to have better, more enriching relationships with ourselves and others!

Persistence without insight will lead to the same outcome.

What I bring to the Coaching process

The confidentiality, HIPAA standards, compassion and creation of safe space in my 13 years practicing massage therapy translate into a foundation of security and safety for my clients in our coaching sessions. What I have done for muscles I now strive to do for emotional habits & behavioral goals: to find what isn’t working great and see if we can inspire change for your desired outcome through the application of knowledge, experience and homework exercises.

My decades-long esoteric practices have cultivated a background from many forms of non-religious, deeply spiritual experiences. These practices have led to my array of literary resources on digging deeper into the self, which I sometimes draw on for reference or homework ideas. The energy work I’ve crafted brings myriad guided meditations and internal journeys as tools for self examination. I have a natural curiosity about human behavior and a genuine desire to help; to understand others and what motivates, guides and drives them.

In all of my practices I work with a variety of people. I believe you have a right to exist, as you are, in your body and mind, in this time. My other beliefs are of no consequence, it is your beliefs, habits, patterns that are what our sessions are all about. I won’t turn anyone away that is willing to put real effort into work on themselves. Most of us are in some kind of transition, and that is usually what motivates us to seek coaching - we want to make a conscious decision about how we unfold into our lives.

What Life Coaching Is and Isn’t

If you desire change, then coaching can work for you. If you desire personal growth then coaching can help you dig deeper into the foundational thoughts and beliefs that hold you back today.

Life Coaching isn’t therapy. It’s meant to be encouraging, self-actualizing, and empowering through examination of your truths. A coach helps you grow by analyzing your current situation, helping you identify limiting beliefs and other potential challenges and obstacles you face, and devising a custom plan of action designed to help you achieve specific outcomes in your life.

Having a baseline level of mental health and self inquiry means you can use coaching for its intended purpose, which is creating proactive steps to live the life you want, rather than, say, trying to figure out why you’re so anxious, depressed, or self loathing all of the time. Coaches refer out to a therapist or specialist for serious issues like depression, addiction, chronic anxiety, childhood trauma, or self harm.

Nature of the Coaching Relationship

Coaching is a process in which the client wishes to achieve personal growth in their life. The coach is there to act as a guide and to provide structure and method to the process of analyzing the challenge and aiding the client in developing strategies to accomplish this change. It is the client who achieves change, the coach cannot ever do this for the client.

Coaching can involve any aspect of the client’s life, including mental, emotional, physical, relational and financial. The client retains full responsibility for all of these, their own wellbeing, and is solely responsible for any actions or decisions they take as a result of the coaching  process. The client recognises that the coach is not and can not be held liable for any action or inaction or any direct or indirect result of the coaching process. The client recognises that coaching cannot ‘cure’ anything, mental or physical and is not a replacement for psychotherapy, counseling or medical help.

The relationship between a client and their life coach is a creative partnership that seeks to:

  • Identify, clarify and create a vision for what the client wants

  • Use coach’s expertise to modify goals as needed

  • Encourage client’s self-discovery and growth

  • Nurture and evoke strategies and a plan of action based on what fits best with the client’s goals, personality and vision

  • Foster client accountability to increase productivity, ie: reaching your objectives

Keep in mind that self discovery isn’t an event; it unfolds over time. We usually have many questions and they normally aren’t answered all at once. What we can do is take steps to understand what drives us and how those drives may evolve as we initiate change in our lives.

Getting Started

Complimentary Consultation: To begin we would interview each other. There’s no point in committing to coaching if we immediately find we don’t work well together. You would tell me what you’re looking for in coaching and I would tell you what I feel I'm capable of helping you with. If we develop a genuine rapport with one another and feel at ease in communicating then that is a great signal that working together can produce results for you.

Framework / Procedure

Coaching can be approached on a session to session basis, or in blocks of sessions. While the average coaching relationship is about 1 year, some coaching relationships are just a few sessions and others continue for several years. Often a minimum time period makes sense because this creates and supports commitment to the process.

Coaching is a process and creating meaningful change takes time.

Ultimately it is important that the coaching is providing value.  Whether just getting started or after a period of time, the key consideration in whether to continue is the benefit You are gaining from the coaching relationship!

Session to session arrangements can be canceled at any time with at least 48 hours notice prior to an arranged session with no penalties. Where a block has been paid for, cancellation is not possible as it would defeat the purpose of committing to a block. However, changes in session times should be made 48 hours before the agreed time and in accordance with agreed procedure. A break in a block may be arranged by mutual consent.

Each session will be 60 minutes long and will take place either in my office at the HEAT Center or remotely through an online audio/visual platform, or by phone. When in person, it is expected that all current covid-19 related protocols will be respected.

Fees

Price per session $90
Price per 4 session block $345
Price per 6 session block $510

The fees are payable in advance for a block, and at the completion of individual sessions, or by other arrangements crafted by both of us.
These are my normal fees, we may come to a different arrangement which will be created in writing, physically or by email, before we begin our coaching sessions together.

Full Disclosure

Anyone can call themselves a life coach. Unlike massage therapy in New York State, there is no state, federal or global regulatory body or oversight on a coaching practice. It is up to the practicing individual to enforce their own code of conduct in whether or not they learn through a course of study and how they practice life coaching. I received a Life Coaching Certification from the Academy of Modern Applied Psychology in November of 2021, studying with Kain Ramsay throughout 2021. After receiving certification I acquired a few clients to practice with for free, considering these to be my ‘clinicals’ which would happen in a more institutional atmosphere.
