Aligning with natural cycles

Meeting together at each New Moon we plant our seeds of focus, our intent. Throughout the month we water these seeds as we cleanse ourselves of unaligned attachments. We feed our intents as we nourish ourselves with internally sourced revelations. At the full moon we give them space to grow as we release erroneous control and reclaim joy.

Through our year together, you won’t just understand your phases with the Moon… you’ll understand more about your deeper drives, desires and what you need to be the most you. 

Finding our gifts, and sharing them wisely

When we can lead our lives in the direction of our deepest self, our uniqueness becomes our superpower, our inner child becomes heard, and our wisdom harmonizes with our life. 

When we make these shifts to our inner landscape, our changes spiral out into our greater communities. As we meet our own deep needs, we serve others.

My journey to MOONWISE

Many moons ago, I made my attempts at being relatively normal. I kept my hair on the most normal side of weird, I wore clothes that could blend into many atmospheres, I used language that was more ameliorative than stimulating.

My me-ness was diluted, and I was struggling in my personal relationships. I was in caught in eddys of shame and blame which dragged at my progress on all fronts. While I felt a sense of drive and determination, my mindset was based on some really old programming, “work harder and you’ll get what you want, just figure it out!”

Nothing really seemed to line up quite right; as if I was wearing clothes that were too small: technically I was dressed, but it didn’t feel as good as I knew life could.

While I had maintained a sincere spiritual practice with a group of friends, we drifted a bit; some of them moved away, and we just kind of fell off of gathering together with a united spiritual purpose.

Years went by, gatherings became quarterly with one big bash in the summertime. These were enjoyable, but the momentum from practicing our sacred arts together felt fleeting.

How could I ground these new perspectives and mind shifts into everyday life?

Feeling less sure, but still curious about my place in the world, I retreated further from practicing

In the midst of all this, I was going to school — attaining my license to practice Massage Therapy, and 5 years later I opened a holistic healing center. It was there, at the first incarnation of the HEAT Center in 2015, that I began offering monthly new moon ceremonies.

I had found inspiration from a mentor who was ancient, spicy, and living their life on purpose.

Ah! That was how I felt when I was fresh out of massage school! I had a business plan, I had studied energy palpation as an elective and was doing distance healings (this was before I was even aware of reiki).

This was THE STUFF - the motivation, the moxy, the real deal, the hard work that creates lasting change; the potentially longer road to more stable personal success.

Those early trial-and-error moon ceremonies were revelatory. We dug deep, we worked on trust, our compass was set by the stars, we entered that divine adventure with hope in our hearts.

And then …

Change changes needs - the HEAT Center building was sold quickly, and all the businesses therein scattered. By by, classroom.

Determined not to go backwards, to that spiritually devoid and homogenized soul place, I bounced around doing ceremonies where there was space to gather (thank you Heidi J!)

This, of course, also fizzled, and then COVID happened. I offered ceremonies from my room (rented in a house with 6 other people).

As COVID raged on, my partner and I were eventually able to move into a house we had been renovating for about a decade (we had finally finished the floors). Obviously it was a busy time, and yep - that spiritual practice took a back seat.

— WHY ARE OUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICES AND CREATIVE ENDEAVORS ALMOST ALWAYS THE FIRST THING WE DITCH WHEN TIMES GET DIFFICULT OR DEMANDING?!

Enough was enough!

I felt called to offer ceremonies again, but I also felt confused about how to offer these in the most legitimate way. Looking at all the unresearched, uneducated, and selfish content our there from people who just decided one day to be ‘witchy’, and charge a lot of money for it, I felt like I had to keep proving why I deserved to be offering the work I was doing and creating, and I had to keep my offerings the most affordable.

Friends and clients would tell me about my talents and gifts, and I couldn’t see what they saw. I didn't feel my own power, didn’t trust in it, and didn’t understand my own value.

Shortly before massage therapists were called back to work in NY State in late 2020, I attained my Life Coaching certification, I studied divine & dignified dying (not quite a death doula), and I was researching emotions, behavioral patterns, mindsets, habits… so much social science. I had been addicted to Brene Brown’s podcast, “Unlocking Us”, and Pádraig Ó Tuama’s “Poetry Unbound”.

And I began to write, in earnest.*

And my writing pulled me back to my spirit - I developed my substack page, a place to share what I had learned, the connections between the somatic and emotional worlds I had discovered in my work and in my reading, and other things that inspired me.

And my writing pulled me back into ceremony. All those journaled revelations I had in those years became reflective questions for my moon ceremony participants. Everything I research that inspires my mind to wonder, all woven in.

The evolution of these moon ceremonies has brought them to a unique place.

Returning after a hiatus from our ceremonies, one Moonbeam mentioned that:

“these new gatherings felt more like a coaching program: the seasons and elements are taken into account alongside the current astrology, and these both support and cushion the deeply reflective questions, each of which has a sort of distilling about it — there are answers in the moment and there are inner responses that change overtime, reflecting our evolution.”
